Here's Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Leveling System Explanation

In Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, you level up by collecting Red Mercury from enemies or consumable items, then refining it at shrines to gain skill points. Dying makes you drop Red Mercury, and higher Madness increases your loss, sometimes spawning an Inner Demon to guard it. Gear customization matters — armor affects resistances, and weapons can be upgraded, transmogged, and freely respec’d for different playstyles. The game features over 20 weapons, hundreds of potential levels, and a progression system built around smart resource management and adaptability.

Here’s a complete Wuchang: Fallen Feathers leveling system explanation.

What is Wuchang?

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers launched on July 24, 2025, available on PC (Windows), Xbox Series X|S, and via Xbox Game Pass. In this dark souls‑like action RPG, you play as Bai Wuchang, a pirate warrior with amnesia and a mysterious Feathering disease, exploring the shattered land of Shu in the late Ming dynasty. Genre fans will appreciate its tight combat, expansive skill tree, and interconnected level design, though some performance hiccups and steep status‑effect management can test patience. Previously, we published the system requirements for PC to help players prepare. Although even a good PC won't save you from lag at the release, this is fixed with a patch.

What is Red Mercury and How to Get it?

Red Mercury is your primary leveling currency in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. You collect it by beating enemies or consuming the items.

Beating enemies (stronger foes grant more), with your on‑screen counter showing your current stash and a flower icon lighting up when you're eligible to level up. Consuming Red Mercury items (buds and fully grown flowers) that safely store resource — buds ~100, blooms ~1000, which add to your total when crushed in inventory. Use the stored items wisely — don’t crush them unless you're at a shrine and ready to level, since they’re safe from being dropped upon death.

Wuchang: Leveling System

The leveling system in Wuchang centers around a currency called Red Mercury, which you collect from enemies or from consumable flowers. Once you've gathered enough, head to any Shrine to refine it into level‑up currency, unlocking skill points in the Impetus Repository. Death plays a key role here: when Wuchang dies, she drops a portion of her Red Mercury at the location, the amount depending on her Madness level — higher Madness means more lost Red Mercury, sometimes even an Inner Demon spawns to guard it.

At a shrine, open the Impetus Repository and select Refine Red Mercury Essence to spend your currency and gain levels.

Simple Step‑by‑Step Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Leveling Table:

Step
Action
1
Defeat enemies or find Red Mercury items (buds/flowers)
2
Accumulate enough in your on‑screen counter
3
Visit any Shrine and open the Impetus Repository
4
Select "Refine Red Mercury Essence" to level up
5
Spend earned points on skill tree nodes

The game allows you to progress through hundreds of levels — casual sources mention reaching level 500 caps in endgame content. As you level, you earn both raw stat increases (health, stamina, strength, magic) and Red Mercury Essence points to spend on abilities. You can freely respec for free, so shifting builds for different bosses or playstyles is encouraged.

Wuchang: Gears and Customisation

Gear in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers plays almost as important a role as leveling. Armor directly influences your resistances to multiple damage types, including slash, fire, frostbite, corruption, and paralysis, making the choice of the right set critical for survival. The game also includes a transmog feature that lets you maintain your preferred appearance while still optimizing stats for specific encounters, ensuring that style doesn’t have to come at the cost of effectiveness.

Customization extends beyond armor. Players can experiment with five weapon classes: dual blades, axes, longswords, spears, and one‑handed swords. Each tied to its own skill tree where Discipline nodes unlock special abilities. Armor sets provide both base stats and resistance bonuses, while weapon upgrades use Red Feathers and Vermilion Chisels to enhance mastery across an entire weapon type, allowing improvements like axe mastery to apply to all axes, with a maximum upgrade level of +10.

Match your armor resistances to the upcoming area — if it's frost or poison-heavy, equip sets that resist those ailments to avoid debilitating status effects.
