Fast Travel Complete Guide for Death Stranding 2

Getting around in Death Stranding 2: On The Beach can be a long, scenic walk — until you finally unlock fast travel. In this guide, we’ll explain exactly how to Fast Travel in Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, when it becomes available, and how it compares to the system in the first game. It’s not just about skipping walking — it’s about knowing when it’s worth it.
How to Fast Travel in DS2
To use Fast Travel in Death Stranding 2, you’ll rely on the DHV Magellan or Transponders. The Magellan lets you travel between major facilities across Mexico and Australia, while the Transponder system allows for quicker jumps once you build them. You’ll need to have already visited and connected these places to the Chiral Network — no shortcuts to unknown areas.
Fast travel with the Magellan is versatile: you can send Sam with his cargo or send the ship alone to move materials. But if you deliver cargo this way, you get hit with the Magellan Evaluation, which cuts down your likes and slows your relationship progress with NPCs. Transponders offer a faster way to jump around, but cargo gets left behind at the departure point.
The upside? You’ll save tons of time and avoid rough terrain or BT-infested areas. The downside? Your delivery score suffers, and you’ll miss out on some of that iconic exploration. Oh — and remember, this feature, like the game itself, is only available on PlayStation 5 for now. Want to know when it might arrive on PC? We’ve got you covered in our “ When is DS2 PC Port? ” article. Probably, it will be in one year or less.

When is Fast Travel Unlocking?
Death Stranding 2 Fast Travel unlocks after you finish Order No. 12 in Episode 3. Once you defeat the massive mechanical BT and connect West Fort Knot, you’ll be introduced to the Magellan system as part of the story. You’ll get a notification after you rest in your Private Room, and from then on, the skies open up — literally.
The Transponder system unlocks later in the game and requires a PCC Level 2 to build. These allow near-instant jumps across the map, but Sam must leave his cargo behind.

Fast Travel in DS: Now and Earlier
If you played the original Death Stranding, the concept will feel familiar, but the execution has evolved. In DS1, fast travel was limited to jumping between rooms and safe houses without cargo. In Death Stranding 2, you can take your stuff (with Magellan), move across continents, and even build fast travel points yourself via Transponders. It’s more flexible but also more strategic.
The overall experience also reflects how DS2 leans deeper into logistics and planning. In DS1, fast travel was almost a reward. In DS2, it’s a decision with consequences.
Here’s no spoilers! If you're wondering whether it's worth playing the original game first, we’ve broken it down in our “ Should You Play DS1 before DS2? ” article. Safe travels!
