Records in the world of eSports
Elen StelmakhEsports is gaining more and more popularity and is turning into a real industry that attracts lots of spectators and generates big revenue. It has already got its own records, although due to the fact that it is developing rapidly, lots of them change regularly – but it is even more interesting. We will tell you about the most important esports records and you can keep track of the competitions and esports news with the help of Play Score.
The biggest prize pool
Prize pools are discussed more often – lots of people are impressed by the fact that if you play well, you can earn huge money. And no one can compete with Dota 2 – The International has been impressing all esports fans with the sums of the prize pool for a few years.
It is made up thanks to the community of the game: one quarter of the money that players spend in the purchase of the Battle Pass devoted to the tournaments heads to the prize pool, and the rest of the money is taken by the developers. Every year this sum is getting bigger and bigger: in 2018 it was $25,5 million, in 2019 – $34,3 million, in 2020 the tournament was canceled because of the pandemic but in 2021 a new record was set – $40 million were played for last fall.
Also, there was another record set at TI 2021 – Team Spirit won $18,2 млн, and each player of the winning team got over $3,6 million.
The biggest audience
The record of the number of viewers is set at another tournament – Worlds in League of Legends. According to the developer, the peak number of viewers at Worlds 2021 surpassed 73,8 million – much more than a year before. The number of average spectators of the final series of the tournament is also impressive – 30,6 million.
The growth of views has increased thanks to the fact that the series was intense and it ended up with the score 3:2. Alongside, the organizers put in efforts and broadcast the event in 18 languages and on 34 platforms. Due to the fact that the common statistics on all the platforms is known only by the developer, it is hard to make a proper comparison with other disciplines – usually comparison involves examining the numbers from Twitch, on this platform the peak of spectators of Worlds 2021 made up 3,54 million.
The youngest esportsman
The best way to start a career in esports is when you are young but making your way to the professional team is quite rare when you are 15-16 years old. Victor M. De Leon III(nickname: Lol Poison) did it when he was 6 – he started participating in the Halo professional league by the ports principle. When he was 7, he took second place at a major tournament and then participated in numerous Halo tournaments and other disciplines.
The biggest number of participants
The RAGE tournament in Shadowverse gathered 6 086 contestants in Tokyo – quite an impressive scale: even such widely known disciplines as LoL and CS could not dream about these figures.
