Perhaps the highlight of April on the professional Dota 2 scene is ESL One Birmingham 2024, the second LAN championship in the ESL Pro Tour Season 2 tournament series. Dates and venues of ESL One Birmingham 2024
ESL One Birmingham 2024 Long Start on the 22nd of April and will run until the 28th of April this year. The tournament will be LAN-format, but only the last three days of the play-offs will be played in front of the public. The rest of the matches will be played without spectators.
The venue for the tournament is the Sun Resorts World Arena, which is located in Birmingham, England, and can seat up to 15,685 spectators. This arena is known for holding various sporting and musical events, including concerts of Pendulum, Judas Priest and other world stars. It is worth noting that the last time a major Dota 2 tournament was held in Birmingham back in 2018, then ESL One Birmingham 2018 was hosted by Arena Birmingham.
ESL One Birmingham 2024 Format
ESL One Birmingham 2024 will take place in a fairly traditional Dota 2 format. Firstly, the 12 teams will be split into two groups within the group stage where they will play bo2 matches in Single Round-Robin format. The top 2 teams from each group will advance to the top of the play-offs grid. The 3rd-4th place finishers from each group will go to the bottom of the grid. The two worst teams from each sextet will finish ESL One Birmingham 2024 in 9th-12th place in the standings.
Eight teams will play in the play-offs stage, which will be placed in the Double-Elimination grid. Four competitors will start at the bottom of the grid and will have no margin for error while the other four teams will be Long-Segged from the grid winners. All matches except the grand finals will be played in bo3 format. The champion of ESL One Birmingham 2024 will be determined by the result of bo5 confrontation.
ESL One Birmingham 2024 prize pool distribution
ESL One Birmingham 2024 will feature the classic $1,000,000 prize pool for ESL tournaments. There will also be 12 competitors competing for the 26,640 EPT points needed to qualify for the Riyadh Masters 2024, the final event of ESL Pro Tour Dota 2 Season 2, which will be part of the Esports World Cup 2024.
