Dota 2 Reborn is 7 years old!
Lord MatusDota 2 fans can celebrate today, as September 9 is Dota 2 Reborn birthday. "New interface. A new engine. New ways to play." - That was the slogan behind Dota 2 Reborn seven years ago. Many have already forgotten that the game did not always have custom modes, the engine was once old and not so productive and beautiful, and the interface was simplified.
If you don't know what the Dota 2 Reborn release date is or have forgotten the benefits of the updated client, we can already tell you (or remind you) about the major innovations that have become an integral part of the game.
Source 2
Perhaps the biggest innovation for Dota 2 Reborn is the game's transition to the new engine. In it came a lot of innovations that had a mostly positive impact, but not without some negative aspects.
First and foremost, with the switch to Source 2, Dota was intended to improve the performance on all players' computers. This was especially supposed to be felt on weak computers, but users noted that once Dota 2 switched to Source 2, the performance left a lot to be desired.
With time, however, Valve was able to fix the performance issues and Dota 2 community began to see nice FPS gains coupled with decent graphics, what is especially important at Dota 2 tournaments.
The second and important improvement in terms of Dota 2 porting to Source 2 was an improved visuals. Shaders, textures and other visual components that were perceived by players in one way or another were improved. This improvement was also well received by the community and immediately received a positive response from them.
On the visual side, the improved model rendering and the introduction of cloth simulation and physics added to the game.
This solution was achieved in large part by the addition of built-in support for OpenGL graphics software, which no graphical game can do without.
A third, but no less important innovation was the update of the game's interface. This mostly concerns the main menu, where the process of inviting players and launching game search has been simplified.
Are the Olds in place? Remember the old interface? It went into oblivion 7 years ago.
Just as with the performance improvements, some users found the update quite amusing, while others wanted the old interface back, but eventually got used to the new one as well.
The new interface introduced the ability to instantly buy an item without going to the Marketplace and now users could try the item on their favourite character without having to buy it. In this way Valve simplified and improved the shopping experience for connoisseurs of the high.
Among the less significant, but nevertheless important things, we can mention the improvement of the sound component, the reduction of delay between the players and the server. The game has also appeared on devices running on MacOS and Linux operating systems.
Custom games
Dota 2 Reborn together with Source 2 brought some custom modes that bring joy to all who love something out of the box.
Play a 5x5 game with only Pudge and compete with your hook skills? Easy! Fighting only myrrhs and being in the middle of a bacchanalia with arrows flying everywhere? That's fine too. Or maybe you want to pass so-called Deathrun and run through deadly corridor, deftly avoiding traps thanks to your skills? Well, there are such modes too!
There are also the usual improvements to the standard modes. For example, the format is not 5x5, but 10x10 or 10x-mode, where the damage is multiplied by 10. In China, the 4x2 mode has become very popular, where users can add two additional skills to the standard heroes: one ultimatum and one normal skin.
In short, in custom modes, everything can be found to suit every player's taste, if they want to move away from the classics.
Some of them have spawned separate genres, like the Warcraft III engine's DotA. The first example that comes to mind is Dota Autochess, which later evolved into a separate product. Valve tried to play on the hype and released their own Dota Auto Chess, which soon lost popularity.
However, 10x10, Memes Reborn and other interesting modes became available thanks to the appearance of custom modes.
The custom games window allowed the community to vote for newer and more interesting modes, thereby helping to push them to the top, and over time Valve started to select the most interesting custom games and give them special rewards for participating.
Workshop tools
With the arrival of Dota 2 Reborn, Valve created a cool toolkit for gamers who like to create something new. Since then, contentmakers can get creative with the new Dota 2 Workshop Tools, which makes working with models much easier.
Didn't understand anything, but it's very interesting.
It's given access to the community to work on custom maps and in-game models. It introduced an editor for these very models and their materials, including textures and shading. Users could now work on various particles, and scripting was made supported by the Lua programming language.
Learning
It's no secret that Dota 2 is a game with a fairly high entry threshold. With each year and update, adding new heroes and mechanics, this phrase is becoming more and more relevant. Valve decided to help newcomers to get into the environment of their MOBA and developed their own tutorial.
Of course, in order to achieve a truly high level of skill player will have to hone their skills and watch the various tutorials on YouTube, but contribute to the elimination of illiteracy in relation to Dota 2 the newly introduced tutorial can well.
The game is now able to teach players not only the basic basics like moving around the map, using the skills, buying items and assembling them into more complex abilities, but also tell you how the mechanics of the towers, which for some reason attack you, not creeps.
