Esports news OpTic Gaming
In brief:
The American eSports organisation OpTic Gaming was formed by KR3W in 2006 as a semi-professional Call of Duty team. Over the next few years, the team managed to grow into a full-fledged eSports project, which coincided with the arrival of Hector Rodriguez to the leadership position.
For many years OpTic Gaming focused solely on the discipline of Call of Duty, where they occasionally achieved major successes, but in the early tens of years they began to turn their attention to other eSports games.
In particular, the American organisation turned its attention to the fast-growing markets of Halo and CS:GO, where it assembled a fighting line-up. As it grew, the club opened Fortnite, PUBG, Dota 2 and League of Legends divisions, as well as franchises in Overwatch and Call of Duty.
However, over time, OpTic Gaming has significantly reduced its sphere of influence, stopping only at select disciplines - VALORANT, Apex Legends and franchise leagues. Still, the number of cybersports teams at the club has been shrinking each year, due to a change of ownership in 2019.
However, one of the disciplines that the club turned its attention to back in late 2021, having absorbed Team Envy, was Rocket League. This is where the new history of OpTic Gaming begins, absorbing the best squads of its main rival and also continuing to compete in the Rocket League discipline, but under a new name.
History of the emergence of the OpTic Gaming Rocket League team
Despite the merger of the two clubs beginning in late 2021, OpTic Gaming only joined the Rocket League six months later. In the summer, it was officially announced that one of the strongest squads in North America - mist, dreaz and Allushin - had moved.
With this combination, the squad managed to play the rest of the season, finishing 7th-8th in the Rocket League Championship Series 2021-22 - Spring Split Major and playing in the group stage of the Rocket League Championship Series 2021-22 - World Championship.
However, such a strong line-up attracted the attention of other North American clubs who bought star players into their teams - Gen.G Mobil1 Racing, Dignitas and FaZe Clan.
The start of the new season for OpTic Gaming
Ahead of the start of the Rocket League Championship Series 2022-23 season, OpTic Gaming's organisation has completely changed its roster, signing AYYYJAYY, Retals and MaJicBear. Betting on experience and youth, the club decided to play the long game, so failure within the autumn split did not force the management to make hasty decisions.
As a result, the team was limited to finishing in the top 8 at RLCS 2022-23 - Fall: NA Regional 1 - Fall Open and RLCS 2022-23 - Fall: NA Regional 2 - Fall Cup, as well as finishing 9-11 at the RLCS 2022-23 - Fall: NA Regional 3 - Fall Invitational, leaving the majors in Rotterdam.
The winter setbacks continued as the North American squad finished in last place twice during the winter split. Despite reaching the semi-finals of the RLCS 2022-23 - Winter: NA Regional 3 - Winter Invitational, OpTic Gaming once again failed to clinch a trip to the majors.
Despite the disappointing results, the team remains a notable force on the competitive Rocket League scene. What's more, the roster enjoys the confidence of their management, who do not pressure the players or demand short-term results. Given this forward-thinking approach, OpTic Gaming has an excellent chance of firing a shot at the Spring Split and going to the Summer World Championship.
