IEM Brazil Rio 2023 is the next CS:GO major tournament in the famous Intel Extreme Masters series. Six months after the success of the majors, Rio de Janeiro will once again open its doors to the best teams on the planet.

Sixteen competitors from Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia will battle it out for a combined prize pool of $250,000, plus a trip to IEM Cologne 2023 for the winner.

The championship CS GO matches will follow a classic pattern, with a group stage of eight teams in each group and a play-off stage with the top three runners in each group. The final, scheduled to take place at the Jeunesse Arena, will decide the winner on 23 April.

About the tournament

The Intel Extreme Masters Tournament Series is characterised by a star-studded line-up, as the organisers issue invitations not only to their partners but also to the best representatives of the region in which a particular championship is held.

IEM tournaments are also included in the overall Intel Grand Slam structure, offering the winners a chance to compete for one million dollars in gold bullion.

The venue will be the renowned Jeunesse Arena, which has hosted the IEM Rio Major 2022 in the past. The organisers plan to open the stadium's doors for the play-off stage.

The list of invited participants at IEM Brazil Rio 2023: FaZe Clan, NAVI, FURIA, Team Vitality, OG, Cloud9, Ninjas in Pyjamas, MOUZ, fnatic, Outsiders and Heroic.

Also for IEM Brazil Rio 2023, regional qualifiers were held with 9INE, BIG, IHC Esports, MIBR and 9z as winners.

Stages of the tournament IEM Brazil Rio 2023

IEM Brazil Rio 2023 will start with the group stage which will be held in GSL format. As such, all sixteen competitors will be divided into two groups comprising a double elimination grid. The opening matches will take place in BO1 format, while all remaining matches will be played in BO3 format.

The top three teams from each group will advance to the play-offs in the following order: winners to the semi-finals; silver medallists to the quarter-finals with top seed; bronze medallists to the quarter-finals with bottom seed. The IEM Brazil Rio 2023 play-offs will offer teams a single-elimination grid, where all matches, except for the grand final, will take place in BO3 format. Conversely, the main match of the tournament will take place in BO5 format.
