Andrey «ALWAYSWANNAFLY» Bondarenko is a professional Dota 2 player of Ukrainian descent. ALWAYSWANNAFLY is a veteran of the CIS esports scene, being active since 2011. He has managed to play for almost all CIS organizations in his long-time career. We present to your attention ALWAYSWANNAFLY’s road to becoming an esportsman.
The beginning of the career
Before getting to his first club, ALWAYSWANNAFLY had spent a lot of time playing video games. In his childhood, Andrey visited computer clubs where he was demonstrating a pretty confident level of play. It is not surprising that consequently, the games helped him to build a career.
The team The Retry was the first club ALWAYAWANNAFLY was playing for. The player spent a month there but he won his debut tournament – Dota 2 Star Championship. The start was promising.
The club DTS Gaming was the next team for ALWAYSWANNAFLY. The player stayed there a bit longer than in TR – 4 months. During the time spent on the roster of DTS Gaming, ALWAYSWANNAFLY played at Techlabs Cup 2012 Showmatch and achieved victory at ASUS Open 2012 Spring Cup.
In May 2012, ALWAYSWANNAFLY became a player of Team Empire. Having joined the pretty prestigious organization, ALWAYSWANNAFLY took part in one of the most respected tournaments of that time: StarLadder and The Defense. However, the player failed at both championships. The team placed 5th at StarLadder but the team stopped on the 13th-16th place at The Defense Season 2. ALWAYSWANNAFLY left the roster of Team Empire after that.
Then, there were Team Kharkiv and Eclipsia where the player spent 2 months, in total. iLuminate was the next team where the player did not stay for long too.
ALWAYSWANNAFLY returned to The Retry in September 2012 but Andrey parted ways with the tag two weeks later.
ALWAYSWANNAFLY became a player of ICCup in March 2012. ALWAYSWANNAFLY participated in various small championships, while playing for this team, and won some of them. ICCup prevailed at StarLadder ProSeries Season, D2R Team League Season, EIZO Cup #4, and many others. The team tried to qualify for The International 2013 but it failed, having held the 5th-6th place in the Western qualifiers. Also, ALWAYSWANNAFLY, being on the roster of ICCup, became the silver medalist of StarLadder StarSeries Season 6. ALWAYSWANNAFLY left the roster in August 2013, after which moved to Terrible Terrible Damage where he spent less than a month.
ALWAYSWANNAFLY became a player of Team Empire again in September 2013
Team Empire
After the return of ALWAYSWANNAFLY to Team Empire, the results became better. The team placed 3rd at StarLadder StarSeries Season 7, Netolic Pro League #4 West: First Cup. Also, the team held the 4th place at WePlay Dota2 League Season 2.
The team achieved victory at Electronic Sports World Cup 2013 in November 2013. Empire continued showing good results in 2014.
The team placed 1st at Techlabs Cup 2014 Season 1, 3rd at Dota 2 Champions League Season 2. It finished 2nd at MLG T.K.O. Europe and StarLadder StarSeries Season 9. The team prevailed at Excellent Moscow Cup and Dota 2 Champions League Season 3 in May 2014.
That year, ALWAYSWANNAFLY played at his very first The International. Empire held the 13th-14th place at TI4. However, the results became only better after that.
The team achieved victory at Excellent Moscow Cup 2 in October 2014 and it became the champion of StarLadder StarSeries Season 11 in January 2015. The team placed 1st at joinDOTA MLG Pro League Season 1 in April and it won Dota 2 Champions League Season 5 a month later. The team held the 2nd place at MarsTV Dota 2 League 2015 Spring in June. In 2015, the team played at the main tournament of the year – The International 2015. Empire placed 9th-12th there.
The performance at the fifth The International was the last one for ALWAYSWANNAFLY on the roster of Team Empire.
Finding himself
After the departure of ALWAYSWANNAFLY from Team Empire, Andrey had changed a lot of teams before he found a stable club. He tried his power in CIS Rejects, Team Spirit, Polarity, F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Double Dimension, Thug Life, and Gambit Esports. The performance for Team Spirit and the 13th-16th place at The Shanghai Major were the most successful results.
ALWAYSWANNAFLY became a player of FlyToMoon in February 2018.
FlyToMoon, Winstrike, and NaVi
Having become a player of FlyToMoon in February 2018, the newly-minted team almost immediately became a tier-1 team on the CIS scene. FTM proved that it was able to fight the best teams in the world in May 2018. The team placed 3rd at EPICENTER XL and made it to The International 2018 later. The team was playing under the colors of Winstrike at TI. The club held the 9th-12th place there, which can’t be called a bad result. However, ALWAYSWANNAFLY and the teammates became FTM again in January 2019. In 2019, ALWAYSWANNAFLY with the team participated in small tournaments and made it to better tournaments from time to time. The situation became a bit better in 2020.
FlyToMoon won Maincast Winter Brawl in January and prevailed at Parimatch League Season 2 two months later. The team held the 2nd place in the third season of Parimatch League in July and won OMEGA League: Europe Divine Division in September.
In September, the full roster of FTM was signed by NaVi.
With The Born to Win, ALWAYSWANNAFLY held the 4th place at OGA Dota PIT S3: Europe/CIS.
ALWAYSWANNAFLY has earned more than 327,000 dollars of prize money in his career.
