Top 8 contenders for the quarter-finals of Euro 2024

Top 8 contenders for the quarter-finals of Euro 2024

The sporting highlight of the European Football Championship is just around the corner. Fans only have to wait a short time for the opening match to kick off on 14 June in the Allianz Arena. Who will make it to the quarter-finals according to bookmakers and experts? Let's take a closer look at the various teams to find out who can at least make it past the round of 16.

Bookmakers and experts speculate - Which 8 of the 24 teams will progress?

A total of 24 European teams will start the tournament on 14 June. The coaches are still fine-tuning the best line-ups for the first group matches. Fans, experts and sports betting providers are already determining their favourites. The best odds for Euro 2024 from 1Bet allow long second bets on the participants in the quarter-finals or on the tournament winner.

Only eight teams will make it to the quarter-finals via the round of 16. Above all, however, it is important to get through the group stage, otherwise they will not progress. The experts agree that some teams will make it far. But bookmakers and sports experts always have an insider's tip, because a tournament of this magnitude can upset the normal balance of power and, as we all know, anything is possible in football.

Which colours will dominate going into the quarter-finals? The following teams are to be expected.

England

Everyone is wondering whether the curse of Harry Kane will overshadow the European Championship or whether the birthplace of modern football will win the title. The chances are quite good, as the islanders have plenty of talent and experience. Although the last few preparation games have been less than ideal, England should definitely make it to the quarter-finals with Kane and Bellingham in top form.

France

The French are hungry for a title. Mbappé is waiting in the wings along with top goalkeeper Mike Maignan. France's team is an interesting mix of experienced players and young guns who will cause a stir on the pitch. They should have an easy game in Group D of Euro 2024, as they have already beaten the otherwise strong Dutch team twice in their preparations.

Spain

The Spaniards are always a force to be reckoned with. The recruits from Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are known worldwide for their skills. Although the defeat against the Scots caused an outcry among the fans, it was better in preparation than in the tournament itself. Under the leadership of Luis de la Fuente, the Spaniards will have to pull themselves together if they are to reach the quarter-finals.

Germany

The Germans have a lot to make up for. After poor performances in the last two years, the management team has decided to make major personnel changes. Preparations for Euro 2024 have not gone well, but there seems to be some movement in the Teutons' game. Home advantage must give them a little boost to reach the quarter-finals and perhaps even a little further, as in the summer fairytale of 2006.

Italy

Things are not going as smoothly as usual for the Italians, the reigning European champions. The World Cup in Qatar did not go as planned. Now they want to return to the form of the last European Championships, but the top players will have to give their best, because the competition is strong.

Belgium

The Belgians rarely make it into a list of the best teams, but this year they are being treated as an insider tip, not least because of star player Kevin De Bruyne. After tensions within the team at the last World Cup, there is now a new coach in Domenico Tedesco, who wants to get the Belgians back on track.

Portugal

Many of the top favourites fared badly at the last World Cup. The Portuguese are among them. With a change of coach and a breath of fresh air in the squad, they hope to succeed at EM24. Malicious tongues claim that Ronaldo is now too old to win a title, which could provide even more incentive.

Conclusion

In addition to these seven teams, Hungary, the Netherlands and Croatia must also be taken into account. Who will ultimately make it to the quarter-finals is of course not certain. Fortunately, you can always plan for surprises in football.
