The Best Classes in Elden Ring: Nightreign – Full Guide

Each class in Elden Ring: Nightreign has its own specifics and comfort zone. Some are better suited for solo play, others are designed for group support, and some fit almost any playstyle. In this blog, I’ve broken down all the classes and who they’re best suited for. Whether you're new to the game or an experienced player, whether you want to play in a party or solo — I’ll cover which class you should choose. All of this I’ll explain in this blog to help you adapt to the game more easily. So, let’s get started.

The Best Class for Beginners – Guardian

Best Elden Ring: Nightreign class guide

In my opinion, the best starting class for beginners is Guardian. Guardian is a class for those who want to calmly learn the basics of the game and minimize mistakes at the start. Its main task is to give the player survivability and stability without unnecessary complicated mechanics.

Strengths

Guardian has high endurance and strong defense. The passive skill Steel Guard significantly strengthens shield blocking — most attacks can be simply absorbed without serious consequences. Even tough bosses with powerful strikes often fail to break through this defense. The skill Whirlwind allows you to control the battlefield and knock down multiple enemies at once, making it easier to clear groups of enemies. The ultimate Wings of Salvation is useful both in solo and in co-op — it creates a safe zone and revives fallen allies.

Weaknesses

Like all characters, Guardian has its downsides. Guardian has a rather slow gameplay. Its damage is below average, so fights can take longer. There’s practically no ranged combat — everything is focused on close-range control. Solo play requires patience: enemies will fall slowly but steadily.

Late Game

Even in the endgame, Guardian remains useful. Its defensive abilities and control allow it to withstand attacks from the toughest bosses. In group play, it shines as a tank and a stabilizing element for the team.

Who Should Pick It

The most important reason — it forgives mistakes. You don’t need to learn dozens of dodge animations or precise positioning. You raise your shield — you survive. This creates a comfortable learning pace: you have time to study enemy mechanics, learn timing, and get used to the leveling system. That’s why Guardian is considered one of the best entry points into Nightreign.

Raider — The Best Choice for Solo Playthrough

Best Elden Ring: Nightreign class guide

Raider is one of the most reliable classes for solo play. It takes hits well, deals high damage, and allows you to clear most content without complex combos or the need for outside support.

Strengths

The main focus of Raider is damage and controlling enemies in close combat. Thanks to heavy strikes, it quickly breaks enemy posture, opening opportunities for critical hits. The passive skill Fighter's Resolve further boosts damage in trades, allowing you to effectively punish even powerful enemy attacks.

The ultimate Totem Stela works well both in solo and in group play. It deals area damage, blocks enemy projectiles, and creates a convenient zone for clearing groups of enemies on the way to bosses.

Weaknesses

Raider heavily relies on precise attack timing. If the enemy is mobile or actively moves around the arena, you need to anticipate its actions and carefully pick your attack windows. Mistakes are punished quickly: the class has no shield or magic defense, and missed attacks can be costly.

Late Game

As you continue to level up, Raider remains effective. High strength and powerful weapons allow you to deal consistent damage even to final bosses. The key is not to neglect stamina: without enough stamina, you may struggle with long attack chains and blocks.

Who Should Pick It

For players who prefer a straightforward combat style and want to handle most situations on their own, Raider remains one of the most reliable options. There are no complex mechanics here: the focus is on damage, durability, and solid close-quarters combat.

The Best Class for Experienced Players – Executor

Best Elden Ring: Nightreign class guide

Executor is one of the most technical classes in the game. It revolves around parrying, precise actions, and constant control over the situation. Here, success depends not on the character’s stats but on how well the player reads enemy behavior.

Strengths

The core mechanic of Executor is parrying attacks. The skill Cursed Sword allows you to parry almost any strike with a fairly forgiving window, after which the sword is empowered and gains bonus damage. This style allows you to fully neutralize many boss attacks and immediately punish any mistake the enemy makes.

Additionally, the class works well with status effects. A high Arcane stat helps quickly apply bleed and other status effects, which is especially effective in long boss fights against enemies with large health pools.

The ultimate Aspect of the Crucible: Beast provides a temporary boost — increasing survivability, adding shockwaves, and allowing more aggressive control of the battlefield.

Weaknesses

Executor doesn’t forgive mistakes. The absence of a shield and limited health make it vulnerable. Any mistake in parrying or dodging leads to heavy punishment. This becomes especially difficult when fighting groups of enemies — focusing on one target can leave you open to attacks from others.

The katana’s attack range is also limited. Against fast and highly mobile bosses, you sometimes have to constantly reposition to keep them within striking distance.

Late Game

With the right build, Executor remains highly effective even in late stages of the game. The combination of well-timed parries and rapid bleed buildup allows you to quickly reduce the health of even the toughest enemies. However, the class continues to demand high concentration and precise execution throughout the entire playthrough.

Who Should Pick It

Executor shines in the hands of experienced players who understand enemy mechanics and are ready for constant timing work. It’s a choice for those looking not just for a strong character but for a true challenge in the combat system.

The Most Popular Class – Ironeye

Best Elden Ring: Nightreign class guide

Ironeye is truly a popular class — probably the most popular one in the game. It combines a simple and easy-to-understand starting gameplay with strong potential for more advanced and precise play later on. It’s a universal choice for both beginners and more experienced players who want to play comfortably at range.

Strengths

The main advantage of Ironeye is consistent ranged damage. Many bosses in Nightreign are highly mobile and often move out of melee range. As an archer, you can deal damage while staying safe, without getting involved in complicated close-range trades.

The Marking skill plays a key role: during a dash with a dagger, Ironeye simultaneously dodges an attack and applies a mark on the enemy, increasing the damage they take by about 20%. This allows you to take down bosses faster both solo and in group play.

The ultimate Single Shot delivers powerful straight-line damage, piercing multiple targets at once. It works well against both enemy groups and bosses, often knocking them down.

The passive Eagle Eye further increases loot drop rates, making progression and gear collection faster.

Weaknesses

The main weakness of Ironeye is poor close-range defense. If an enemy closes the distance, you have to quickly retreat or switch to your dagger, which is less effective. Positioning mistakes often result in taking significant damage or dying.

In solo play, additional challenges can appear when facing groups of enemies — you constantly need to control your distance and avoid being surrounded.

Late Game

With a good bow and high Dexterity, Ironeye remains effective throughout the entire game. Using status effect arrows — poison, bleed, or rot — allows you to deal constant damage while staying safe at range.

In co-op, his role becomes even more noticeable: safely reviving allies, maintaining steady damage from the backline, and quickly clearing groups of enemies with AoE attacks.

Who Should Pick It

Ironeye is a great choice for those who want a safe but effective playstyle with flexibility for different situations. It’s comfortable for beginners, doesn’t require complex melee trades, but offers room for developing positioning and field control skills if desired.Only after reading this information can you fully understand why this class is so popular among most players. But once you play it yourself, you’ll truly feel the gameplay and experience the class firsthand.

The Best Class for Co-op Play – Wylder

Best Elden Ring: Nightreign class guide

Wylder is a balanced class that feels equally comfortable in both solo playthroughs and co-op. It offers a stable mix of damage, defense, and mobility without complicated mechanics, making it a convenient choice for almost any playstyle.

Strengths

The key feature of Wylder is flexibility. High Strength and Dexterity stats allow you to use a wide range of weapons — from heavy two-handers to faster weapon types. This makes it easy to adapt your build based on the gear you find as you progress.

The Sixth Sense passive provides an extra layer of safety — once per session, Wylder automatically avoids death, staying at minimal health. This gives you time to recover both in solo and co-op play.

The Claw Shot skill adds mobility — letting you quickly close the gap to your target or pull smaller enemies toward you. This is especially useful against fast or highly mobile bosses.

The ultimate Onslaught Stake delivers a powerful area attack, guaranteeing the stagger of large enemies. During its activation, the character becomes invulnerable, allowing you to safely use it even in tough situations, such as reviving allies.

Weaknesses

Like any universal class, Wylder has no extreme strengths. Its damage falls behind pure damage dealers like Raider, and its defense isn’t as strong as specialized tanks like Guardian. It also lacks magic abilities, except for using gear with built-in magical effects.

Late Game

In the endgame, Wylder remains effective against all types of enemies. Fast bosses are handled through hook mobility, heavy ones through solid two-handed weapon damage and control, and group fights through reliable defense and AoE from the ultimate. In co-op, Wylder can easily switch between roles — dealing damage or supporting allies as needed.

Who Should Pick It

Wylder is a reliable choice for those who want a balanced and straightforward class with the ability to adapt their playstyle during the run. It allows for comfortable adjustments to various situations, doesn’t require a narrow specialization, and works well both for the first playthrough and for further mastering the game.

The fact that co-op exists in the game is great. Since the game is quite challenging, tackling difficult content together with friends makes the experience even more enjoyable.

Class Comparison

Below is a summary table of the main characteristics for the listed classes:

ClassDamage OutputSurvivabilityLearning DifficultyPvE/Co-op Versatility
RaiderVery highHigh (large health pool, strong poise under damage)Medium: requires precise attack timingLow: mainly effective as a heavy frontline fighter
GuardianBelow average (low DPS)Very high (best defense and health)Very low: the easiest for beginnersMedium: ideal as a tank/support but weak in solo offense
ExecutorHigh (especially against single targets with bleed buildup)Medium: survivability depends on dodges, but generally fragileVery high: one of the most technical classesLow: highly specialized for mastery in close combat, requires team support
IroneyeAbove average (stable ranged damage)Medium: safe at distance but vulnerable up closeLow: easy to learn initially (with room to grow)Medium: effective as a support in co-op, requires caution in solo
WylderHigh (two-handed power + critical hits)High (shield and "second chance" passive)Low: straightforward gameplay, with depth for more advanced playersVery high: versatile in all modes and roles

Of course, all of this is subjective. Even if you’re new to Elden Ring: Nightreign, but have experience in other similar games or series, Executor might feel the most interesting and suitable for you. On the other hand, without experience in this genre, even the technically simplest class like Guardian may feel quite challenging.

My advice is to pick the class that feels right for you personally. You may need to restart the game several times before you find the one that truly clicks and feels enjoyable to play.
