The new Perks system will allow players to enhance their heroes' abilities during matches. By leveling up a hero, players can unlock minor and major perks that offer strategic advantages, such as reduced cooldowns, self-healing, or entirely new abilities, thereby adding depth and customization to gameplay.

Each hero can level up twice per match, with the first level offering a choice between two minor perks – lighter upgrades such as small passives or cooldown reductions.

For example, Torbjörn can choose between having his Forge Hammer restore armor health to teammates or refilling his Rivet Gun's ammo when activating Overload.

The second level provides major perks that significantly alter gameplay, like enabling Torbjörn to anchor his turret to walls and ceilings or upgrade to a more powerful level 3 turret. These strategic enhancements aim to deepen gameplay by allowing players to tailor their heroes' capabilities to better suit their playstyles and the evolving dynamics of each match.

What's the Difference Between Minor and Major Perks?

Minor Perks provide small tactical advantages, like reduced cooldowns or slight boosts to movement speed, while Major Perks significantly change gameplay by adding new abilities, increasing damage, or altering mechanics.

Minor Perks (Small tactical improvements)

  • Reduced ability cooldowns
  • Increased movement speed
  • Passive self-healing or armor regeneration
  • Ammo replenishment on ability activation
  • Improved ability effectiveness (slightly increased range or damage)

Major Perks (Game-changing upgrades)

  • New functionality for abilities (Torbjörn’s turret attaching to walls/ceilings)
  • Increased damage or survivability in specific situations
  • Enhanced crowd control effects (longer stuns or knockbacks)
  • Additional projectiles or attack modifications (Kiriko’s triple kunai)
  • Completely reworked abilities (Reinhardt’s Firestrike spreading lava)

One of the standout additions in Overwatch 2's Perks system is the Javelin Perk, which enhances Orisa’s offensive and defensive capabilities. This perk allows Orisa to throw her Energy Javelin more frequently, potentially reducing its cooldown or increasing its impact in combat.

Depending on the chosen upgrade path, it could offer benefits such as dealing extra damage, stunning enemies for longer, or even adding new effects like knockback or armor penetration. By incorporating the Javelin Perk, players can adapt Orisa’s playstyle to be more aggressive or supportive, making her a more versatile tank in various situations.

To top it off, her Bola Shot can ensnare an enemy, pulling them – and their teammates – into a deadly combo.
