New Valorant Agent Veto Details – Abilities, Role, Release Date

The biggest Valorant tournament of the year, Champions 2025, has come to an end. To close the event, Riot Games unveiled a brand-new agent — Veto, a Sentinel with a unique design centered around shutting down enemy abilities. His kit revolves around denial, survivability, and repositioning, making him one of the most disruptive agents in the game so far. In this article, we’ll cover everything you need to know about Veto: his abilities, role, release date, and backstory.

Veto’s Abilities

Veto will have four abilities by default, including an ultimate.

Slot
Ability
Q – Chokehold
Equip a viscous fragment of Veto’s mutation and throw it to place a trap. Enemies entering are held in place, deafened, and affected by decay. The trap can be destroyed before activation.
C – Crosscut
Equip a vortex device and place it on the ground. While in range and looking at it, you can reactivate to teleport to the vortex. During the Buy Phase, the device can be recalled and redeployed.
E – Interceptor
Deploy the Interceptor (“Phage”), a device that destroys incoming enemy utility which bounces off players or can be broken by gunfire. The device itself can also be destroyed.
X – Evolution (Ultimate)
Activate full mutation: Veto gains combat stim, regeneration, and complete immunity to debuffs for a limited duration.

Many people tend to believe that the agent is overpowered and too strong, but it’s important to see how it plays out in practice.

Role in the Game: Sentinel

Veto is classified as a Sentinel, a role traditionally focused on defense, site anchoring, and utility support. Unlike Initiators or Duelists, Sentinels shine when holding territory and denying enemy pushes.

What makes Veto unique is his utility denial. His abilities allow him to counter or destroy enemy gadgets and force opponents into gunfights rather than relying on their setups. At the same time, his mobility through teleportation (Crosscut) and survivability with Evolution set him apart from more static Sentinels like Sage or Cypher.

This combination makes him a hybrid between a traditional anchor and a reactive defender who can shift positioning when necessary.

Backstory and Lore

According to the lore, Veto comes from Senegal in West Africa. He carries a rare genetic mutation known as the Radivore Mutation, which grants him enhanced powers. This mutation is the source of his ability to suppress and neutralize enemy utilities, making him one of the most lore-consistent characters in Valorant’s growing universe.

The mutation aligns directly with his gameplay: shutting down abilities, holding positions, and countering utility-heavy agents. His ultimate, Evolution, symbolizes his mutation reaching its full potential, allowing him to become nearly unstoppable for a short time.

Release Date

Riot Games officially confirmed that Veto will be released in Valorant on October 7, 2025. This aligns with Riot’s tradition of dropping major content right after their flagship tournament, ensuring fans stay engaged with fresh gameplay.

Veto brings a fresh take on the Sentinel role by combining utility denial, teleport mobility, and regeneration-based survivability. His unique mutation-driven lore makes him stand out not only in gameplay but also in the Valorant universe.
