The LCK Cup 2026 tournament, which essentially serves as the winter split, has brought viewers many interesting, spectacular, and unexpected moments. Now, following the conclusion of the first international championship, First Stand, the Korean teams are returning to their home region. The teams are fully prepared to start a new battle for leadership and the opportunity to compete at the next major international event. In this article, we will break down the dates, the format of the LCK Cup 2026 Round 1-2, the current form of the participating teams, and find out what to expect from the first matchups in the most competitive League of Legends region.
LCK Cup 2026 Round 1-2 Format and Dates
The LCK Cup 2026 Round 1-2 matches will take place from April 1 to May 31. Over these two months, the teams will play all their scheduled matches, the results of which will determine the leaders of the current stage of the competition.
Round 1-2 Format
Essentially, the entire LCK Cup 2026 is a massive group stage or regular season, whichever you prefer to call it, leading up to the LCK Road to MSI.
Main match rules:
- Format: Double round-robin. This means that each team will play against every opponent twice during this stage.
- Match format: Absolutely all matches are played in a Bo3 (Best of 3) format - a team must win two maps to secure a victory in the series.
- Main goal: After the first and second rounds, the top 6 teams in the standings earn the coveted ticket to the next qualification stage - Road to MSI.
Standings and future seeding: Depending on their final placement in the standings, teams receive various advantages for the Road to MSI stage and are divided into two different leagues (Legend Group and Rise Group) for future performances:
- Table leaders (top seed): Advance to the elite Legend Group and secure the most advantageous position - a spot in the upper bracket of the Road to MSI stage.
- Second tier of leaders: Also secure a spot in the prestigious Legend Group and receive a slot in the Road to MSI stage.
- Bottom of the Top 6: Drop to the lower-tier group - Rise Group, but still retain their slot to participate in the Road to MSI stage.
- Teams outside the Top 6: Lose their chances of advancing to the Road to MSI and fall into the lower Rise Group for their continued participation in the season.

What to Expect from the LCK Cup 2026 Round 1-2?

The LCK Cup 2026 Round 1-2 matches are of immense importance for every team, as tickets to the next major international tournament, MSI, are on the line.
At the same time, the tournament format has proven to be quite balanced. The schedule includes only two matches per day, so the squads have enough time for rest and quality preparation for each specific opponent. In this section, I would like to discuss what we can expect from the LCK Cup 2026 Round 1-2, the teams' form, and their recent performances.
We should start with Gen.G - a mechanically strong team that once again began the year in first place in the domestic league. They went to the First Stand 2026 tournament as undisputed favorites. The reason for this was their dominant play: the roster literally crushed their opponents, often finishing maps in 25 minutes. It seemed that a victory at the international event and a new run for the Golden Road were already guaranteed for them.
However, the unexpected happened in the semifinals. Gen.G faced the European squad G2 Esports from the LEC and sensationally lost with a score of 0:3. In this series, the Korean roster did not look like themselves. The players made an uncharacteristic amount of individual and macro mistakes, creating the impression that a completely different team was playing on stage. But I think in the LCK Cup 2026 Round 1-2, they will once again be able to take the top-1 or top-2 spot.

FEARX is a team that managed to surprise both fans and their opponents. The silver medalists of the LCK Cup 2026 Round 1-2. They also qualified for First Stand and generally performed decently at the tournament. But on their way to the playoffs, they ran into G2 Esports, who, just like with Gen.G, managed to shut them down 3:0. I do not think the team will be able to repeat their triumph and reach the finals again, but I believe they will easily make it into the top 6 or top 4 without any problems.
Hanwha Life Esports is a team that failed miserably in the last split, taking 10th place. But in my humble opinion, it is not exactly unfair, but rather a bit strange to introduce a format where a team that loses all its matches advances to the Play-In, while a team with 2 wins gets eliminated from the tournament due to the format. Of course, there is the show, the intrigue, and one could say that since FEARX, KT, and other teams from the group managed to do it, it is their problem - and this statement would still be correct. But let's return to Round 1-2. Here, HLE will perform much better, and I think they can confidently aim for the top 4. Their roster is strong, though there are areas they need to work on, particularly regarding the map movements of the support and jungler. Since the midlaner and ADC in the team are not entirely self-sufficient, they often need help in their lanes.
We cannot fail to mention T1 on this list. It is always very complicated with T1; the team takes a long time to build momentum and only fully turns on for Worlds. I think their trophies speak for themselves. And this year there are a lot of good rosters that can put up a fight. So, even though it will be difficult, I still think that at least a top-4 finish awaits T1.
