How To Change Outfit in Elden Ring Nightreign

If you're wondering how to change outfits in Elden Ring Nightreign, you're not alone—it's a surprisingly locked-down feature here. At the start, you’re stuck with each Nightfarer’s default look, no matter how many bosses you’ve crushed. But once you’ve taken down a couple of Nightlords, a mirror quietly shows up in the Roundtable Hold. That’s your ticket to swapping appearances, provided you’ve got enough Murk to afford the privilege. Here’s how to unlock more outfits and actually change them once you’ve earned that right.

How to Unlock New Outfits in Elden Ring Nightreign

Changing your gear in Nightreign isn’t as simple as opening a menu and picking a new style. First, you’ll need to beat two Nightlords in separate Expeditions. The first is always Gladius, Beast of Night, and once that’s done, you can go after any of the remaining six bosses. Defeating a second Nightlord triggers a subtle update at the Roundtable Hold—specifically, the Iron Menial sets up a new mirror in the eastern wing, right next to where Gideon Ofnir used to study. That mirror unlocks the ability to change outfits for any Nightfarer.

What is the ultimate goal of the game if not to defeat the Nightlord? Here are all main bosses in Elden Ring Nighttrain, with a list of their attacks. Be prepared for each one.

Darkness35,000Black/purple theme, heavy aesthetic

With access to the mirror comes your first real decision: spend Murk. This isn’t some free wardrobe—you’ll need to grind Expeditions or sell spare Relics to earn Murk, which acts as your outfit currency. The cheapest options are the Dawn variants at 14,000 Murk each, while the stylish Darkness sets cost 35,000. You’ll also unlock more costumes as you progress through Remembrance quests or complete late-game fights. Some of the rarest ones, like the Dark Souls tribute skins, don’t even become available until you’ve beaten the game’s final boss.

What is Murk and How to Get it

Murk is the main currency used to buy outfits in Elden Ring: Nightreign. You earn it by completing or failing expeditions, with a bonus Murk awarded for defeating Nightlords. If you're short, you can also sell spare relics at the Relic Table for extra Murk—but be careful not to sell anything valuable.

How to Change the Appearance in Nightreign

By the way, you can compare the appearance of all the classes. Here is our guide to the classes in Elden Ring: Nightreign, with their combat styles. I really like Duchess!

Once you’ve got the mirror unlocked, the process itself is easy. Walk over to the east wing of the Roundtable Hold—where the empty crates used to be—and interact with the new dressing area. The "Change Garb" option opens a menu showing your currently available outfits. Scroll through your unlocked options for each Nightfarer, preview the looks, and confirm your selection. If you haven’t bought the outfit yet, the game will prompt you to spend Murk before equipping it.

At launch, each Nightfarer has three skins: their Default, Dawn, and Darkness variants. Additional costumes are unlocked later, but they all require a separate Murk payment, even after unlocking. You’ll also want to keep track of who you’re spending on—grinding enough Murk for every character will take dozens of Expeditions. Most players will pick a main and focus their earnings there. If you really want every set, you’re looking at over 300,000 Murk total.

Outfit's Role in the Game

More beautiful character! Here's our guide on how to unlock Revenant, step-by-step. It's an amazing dead white colour.

Changing outfits in Nightreign isn’t just cosmetic fluff; it’s a small reward system baked into the progression loop. Each new Expedition, Remembrance quest, or boss kill pushes you closer to unlocking more style options. You’re not getting bonus stats from different skins, but the sense of visual progression helps add flavour to what’s otherwise a very methodical game. It also helps reinforce Nightfarer's identity, giving your main a signature look that reflects how much time you’ve put into them.

While there’s no direct gameplay buff tied to outfits, some players report feeling more immersed or confident when switching to a Darkness skin before a tough fight. It’s like flexing your fashion sense as a mark of experience. The sheer grind needed to unlock certain looks, especially the Darkness or Dark Souls sets, means wearing them becomes a kind of badge. You didn’t just survive Nightreign’s brutal fights. You did it in style.
