First Appearance

At first the tag IG appeared on the esports radars in 2011. In August, their first roster was introduced, it included:

Till the middle of 2012, IG continued experimenting with the roster. As a result, only in May they managed to complete a stable roster for the rest of the season. The players were:

IG’s culmination was their show at The International 2012 which was won by the team. Even though it was their second world championship, IG managed to become the first Chinese team to raise the Aegis of Champions.

After TI 2012, the champion roster continued to play together. This was how they played till the end of The International 2013.

In this period the team won World Cyber Games 2012 and G-League Season 2, and also took third place at Alienware Cup 2013 – Season 1.

At the decisive tournament of the year, The International 2013, IG were unable to defend their champion title. The roster took 5-6 place which entailed changes in the roster.

In September, Zhou left the team and his slot was taken by Hao. Later IG took on Banana, and this was how the roster got six players.

2014 started successfully for IG. They took second place at 2013 WPC ACE Dota 2 League and won Red Bull ECL 2013 Grand Finals and G-League 2013. Despite the success, in February the roster was changed: hao left the team and Luo got in charge of his position. Later, in March, banana also left the organization.

The renewed roster got down to preparation for TI4. IG won several championships including WPC 2014, GEST The Challenge #5, WVW National Electronic Sports Claasic June, and ESL One Frankfurt. These results must have been sufficient for the organization to have a successful performance at TI4 but the reality was different.

At The International 2014, IG took 7-8 place which led to the changes in the roster.

After the end of TI, YYF announced that he was going to leave the professional Dota. Faith also left the roster. The slots of the former players were given to chisbug and june, however, the former left the team before the end of 2014.

Search for an Optimal Variant

In 2015, IG started to look for a roster that will help to meet the expectations of the TI champion club. At the beginning of the year June left the team, and several days later the team took on BurNing and Faith. This was the IG roster for TI 5 where they took 9-12 place. September gave a start to the reshuffle wave for the team. At the beginning, the team welcomed Rabbit in the organization. Later the roster lost Faith, BurNing, and Chuan. Their positions got occupied by super, XDD, and XuaN. The reshuffle continued in 2016 as well.

At the beginning of the year, the team took on Yuno and XuaN who had to replace Ferrari_430 and Luo. In March, Rabbit left the team. The constant swirl of changes resulted in IG’s absence at The International for the first time since 2011. In general, that year brought the team a win at National Electronic Arena 2016 and second place at G-League 2016.

By the end of 2016 IG managed to complete their roster.

Sunset

In 2017, after unsatisfactory results at their performances in the past, IG partially returned the status of a titled team from China. BurNing, Op, Xxs, BoBoKa, and Q spent almost all season in the organization, right till the end of The International 2017. In this period the team took fourth place at Dota Pit League Season 5, won Dota 2 Asia Championships 2017, took 3-4 place at Dota 2 Professional League 2017 S1: Top, The Kiev Major 2017 and StarLadder i-League Invitational Season 2.

Before the main tournament of the year, IG took 5-6 place at The Manila Masters, EPICENTER 2017, Mars Dota 2 League 2017. At TI7, IG also got placed on the 5-6 position.

New Attempt to Find an Optimal Roster

After their performance at TI, the team lost BurNing and presented this position to GazEod. However, this replacement did not help IG much and the team plunged into the reshuffle sea again.

At the beginning of 2018, the roster took on Agressif and Srf, and OP was replaced by Super. BurNing again returned to the team, but this time he took up the coach position. With the renewed roster, the team had to pop at The International 2018, however, the miracle did not happen. At the main tournament of the year, the team took 17-18 place which led to serious changes in the end. After TI, the team lost Xxs and BoBoka, and later Agressif.

In September, IG announced a new roster made up by:

Almost right after signing, ghost and injuly got inactive and his positions were held by doodle and last.

In 2019, the roster eventually stabilized: their results improved at the middle of the year.

In June, after numerous attempts and failures, IG started to win. The team won Asian Master League S2, ZBT Invitational, and the qualifiers for The International. But their luck disappeared at the closed qualifiers.

Admittedly, their absence at The International did not break IG. The team carried on playing.

In November 2019, the team won DOTA Summit 11, after that the gamers took third place at MDL Chengdu Major and second at World Electronic Sports Games 2019 China Finals.

The first month of 2020 brought IG 5-6 place at DreamLeague Season 13.

Also in 2020 the team managed to take second place at numerous championships including CDA League Season 1, China Dota2 Professional League Season 2, ESL One Birmingham 2020 – Online: China and DPL-CDA Professional League Season 2.

Organization and Awards

The coach of the team is Super. Also IG has a young subdivision, IG Vitality, that demonstrated great results in 2016-2017.

IG collaborated with several Chinese brands including Betway, Huya and Secretlab.

Since the Dota 2 subdivision was created, the roster has brought IG over $5,400,000.
