The International 2024 (TI 13) Format Explanation

Since 2011, hundreds of thousands of Dota 2 fans have annually gathered in front of their displays or in the atmospheric stadium in anticipation of fierce and colorful battles at the main MOBA tournament from Valve in the year. The International is a significant championship on the esports scene, but this year the organizers decided to introduce a number of changes to the competition format. Let's talk about them.

In this article, you will learn about The International 2024, the tournament format, as well as until what point the organizers call this event The Road to The International, and when The International itself starts.

The Road to The International Format

As in the previous year, Valve decided to divide the entire tournament into two parts, namely The Road to The International and The International. The first part of the world championship starts with the group stage, which will begin on September 4. All participants will be divided into four Round Robin groups of four participants. All matches will be played in a bo2 format.

Teams will fight for seeding in the Seeding Decider. The top 2 participants from each group will be matched against the teams that took 3rd-4th place in the groups. The Seeding Decider stage matches will be played in a bo3 format. In both the group stage and Seeding Decider, no team will be eliminated. Participants will compete to advance to the upper and lower brackets of the playoffs.

It is also worth noting that the final stage of the tournament will begin on September 8th. It will be held as part of the Double-Elimination bracket. Eight teams will start in the upper bracket, and eight in the lower. The quarterfinals of the upper bracket, as well as the first and second rounds of the losers' bracket also belong to The Road to The International. All matches will be played in a bo3 format.

The International Format

Starting with the top 8 playoff bracket, Valve calls this part of the tournament The International, which will take place on the final days from September 13th to 15th. Like the first playoff matches, all matches at The International, with the exception of the grand final of the championship, will be held in a bo3 format. The Dota 2 World Champion in 2024 will be determined by the results of the bo5 confrontation.

The International 2024 (TI 13) Format Explanation 1

In addition, in the last couple of years, a trend has been established that only the last few days of the tournament are held in a stadium with spectators. And The International 2024 is no exception. You can come and watch the best Dota 2 matches at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen from September 13th to 15th. The rest of the matches will be held without spectators.

Sixteen teams will take part in the tournament, six of which received a direct invitation from Valve. The remaining ten participants got to the championship through a series of regional qualifiers.
